Cookie Policy

What this covers
Pocket Backstage uses a small number of cookies and browser-local storage entries to make the app work and to remember your preferences. This page explains what they do and how to change your choices at any time.
Strictly necessary
These are required to sign you in and keep the app secure. They cannot be switched off.
- Authentication session — stored by our auth provider (Supabase) in browser local storage under keys starting with
sb-. Keeps you signed in between page loads, and is used to enforce single-device sign-in where your theatre has that turned on (signing in on a new device ends your other active sessions). - Maintenance flag — used to show maintenance messaging when the app is being updated.
- Security tokens — short-lived tokens used to protect form submissions and one-tap links such as event RSVP confirmations.
- App recovery flag — a one-off marker in session storage used to reload the app cleanly after a new version is released mid-session.
- Last page marker — a session-storage note of the page you were last on, so refreshing (or reopening the installed app) returns you there instead of the home page.
- Release notes marker — a session-storage flag so the "What's new" message is only shown once per sign-in.
Functional (optional)
Used only with your consent.
- Cookie consent preferences — stored in browser local storage under the
cc-consentkey so we remember the choices you made on the cookie banner. - Sidebar state — remembers whether you had the navigation sidebar open or collapsed on this device.
- Notifications marker — remembers which notification you had last seen on this device, so the bell only highlights genuinely new items. It stores an identifier only, not the notification content.
- Install prompt — remembers if you dismissed or completed the "add to home screen" prompt, so we don't keep asking.
- Member import helpers (admins only): when importing a members spreadsheet, we can remember your column-to-field mapping on this device so you don't have to set it again next time. Only saved if you tick the "remember" box during import.
- Email test bench (admins only): remembers the test recipient address you last used, on this device.
Note: most personal preferences (such as which help screen you've already seen, or your Fellow-members privacy choice) are stored against your account on our servers, not in your browser, so they aren't cookies. Those are covered in the Privacy Policy.
Analytics (optional)
We do not currently run any third-party analytics. If we add any in future, they will only run after you give consent here, and we'll list them on this page.
Third-party services
Pocket Backstage talks to a handful of third-party services on the server side — our AI assistant provider, our transactional email provider, and, where your theatre uses them, our newsletter provider, SMS provider and Google Calendar. These don't set cookies in your browser through this app — see the Privacy Policy for how those services use your data.
Change your preferences
You can change your cookie choices at any time. Use the button below — your choice takes effect immediately and is remembered on this device.
You can also clear cookies directly through your browser. Most browsers explain how in their Help section (look for "cookies" or "site data").
